Darren and Alana (Engagement)
Alana has always thought that Darren would wake up one morning and decide to propose that day.
He’s spontaneous. A little romantic, yes, but in a cute way, not a serious way. She wasn’t expecting a big planned out event. And she was right, Darren woke up one morning and decided to propose, but Alana was not ready for how….
Before we continue on with that story, I wanted to say, Darren and Alana might be one of my favorite couples of all time. Why? They are full of adventure. Spontaneous to the core. Up for anything. And so am I, (well as much as I can be right now with the preggo belly).
From the first time we talked about their engagement shoot Alana said that at the end of the session they want to jump in the water. (How cool is that?) Lots of people are willing to stand in water, but jump in? Fully clothed? It takes a special couple.
They were willing to wake up early on a Sunday morning, drive and hour, and walk a mile and a half, just to squeeze in their session. (My weekend was packed full because my little brother was getting married.) I was so thrilled they did, because if your going to travel nine hours to get your engagement session done, (They live in Canada) you might as well go to the White Cliffs of Conoy. In my opinion, it is the most gorgeous spot in Lancaster, Pa. If you haven’t been there, I have one word of advice for you, GO!
Ok ok, back to the proposal story…
Darren knew he wanted to marry Alana, he just didn’t know when, one morning he woke up, and decided today is the day.
He had recently bought a house, a fixer upper, something he wanted to turn into a home, and then marry Alana. Or marry Alana so she could turn in into a home, or turn it into a home together, and then get married. Or get married and then turn it into a home. I’m not sure what he exact plan was. Maybe a mixture of all of those.
That day, he took Alana to see the house for the first time.
As they walked up onto the porch of the house he had just bought he asked, “Alana, would you like to unlock “our” house?” And as he spoke he got down on one knee, and handed her a key ring, which had a tag on it that said, “Will you marry me?”
Of course Alana said yes, and now they are excitedly planning their winter wedding in Ontario, Canada. (For those of you who didn’t know, I do travel for weddings)
Alana and Darren were determined to find a place that they could jump in the water, representing “taking the plunge” into marriage. I thought it was such a wonderful idea.
So they found a rock, and took that plunge….I love all the expressions.
A teensy bit of advice from me, be creative on your engagement shoot, be unique and yourselves, and be prepared to have fun! Think of your engagement as a date with a third wheeler who has a camera.
Thanks again Darren and Alana for choosing me to capture these moments! Thanks for being yourselves, and for being so adventurous! You guys are the best! I can’t wait for your November wedding! Alana, you really are going to be the prettiest bride!
xoxo
